The Road Is Full Of Cannibals In November 2008

The Road is a post-apocalyptic movie based on the novel of the same name written by Cormac McCarthy. The film is directed by John Hillcoat and is starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as a father and his son in a journey toward the coast across a blasted landscape. The Road should be released in mid November 2008. Update: The Road will be released on October 16, 2009. :(

The Plot:
"A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food--and each other." (source: IMDb)

A rather terrifying detail about those lawless bands: some have decided to reinstate the harshest slavery and to resort to cannibalism to feed themselves hence transforming a world already bleak into a real nightmare...

The journey of the two heroes of The Road is no sinecure!

The Road will certainly be less spectacular than Doomsday or Mad Max, but that's probably what will make the Road even more powerful... The plot somewhat reminds of the TV show Jeremiah with Luke Perry. But The Road takes place in a world falling in absolute savagery, like a real end to civilization.

May God prevent Mankind to fall back into such savagery!
:)

It's definitely not sci-fi

Anonymous is an idiot, it is sci-fi.

heh... I think Anonymous was being ironical thinking the world is already savage

I've read the book....it is absolutely possible that this could happen someday, whether it be a mad-made or natural event. It's only "sci-fi" to those who believe it cannot happen, which of course, is absurd. There is no way to know what will actually happen in our world, or any other.

Finish the book and then think to yourself--I hope it cannot happen. Do you have food and other supplies stockpiled somewhere? How about a gun and ammo. I predict Oscar nominations when the movie premiers. Doctor Martin OKC

whether it is sci-fi or post-apocalyptic, is not the point. The book is about a real dynamic in the human condition. First and foremost the love between a father and son. Secondly the savage nature of human kind. Ironically they co-exist in our everyday environment. The movie amplifies the response of this antithesis that exist in our human condition. I think it is not being released because it could happen and many people are feeling such dred already because of the environment we are living in today.

As a father with a young son, I found the book profoundly moving and deeply worrying. Whatever unamed catastrophe has happened (nuclear, environmental)it is all too possible. At the heart of this story is the love the man and boy have for each other. It's all they have. In a cold, uncaring world, it's really all any of us have.

You guys are retarded.
It is not sci fi.
It's just fiction.
I read the book and there's nothing about sci-fi in the book.
You need to go back to elementary school and learn book genre categories again.
While you're at it, look up the Dewey Decimal System.

Loved the book and am disappointed the movie (as per the trailer) embellishes the horror. You'd think the horror in the book would be sufficient, and what does it say about American audiences that it's not. The scene where they are in the cannibal house isn't true to the book. They do not go upstairs, they are not in the bathroom, the father does not point a gun at his child's head. In the book they escape before the cannibals enter the house but I guess this isn't satisfying enough.
